Welcome to the first blog post of Mindful Medicine!

First of all, I need to thank my husband, Amit, and my kids, Manish and Janika, because without their support and encouragement this whole concept of mindful medicine would not have become reality. They have taught me so much, including what a blog is. I have learned that it is a means of sharing your thoughts, research, and resources for others to read. Some days I will write very technical or scientific blog posts about nutrition and health, while other days they will be coming from my heart as a mother and a wife.

It feels fitting at this time of year when everyone is making New Year’s resolutions to share mine with you. My resolution for 2017 is to “walk the talk.” Meaning: if I am going to recommend, suggest, or ask you to do something this year, I will try and do the same.

You may have noticed that I said “try” rather than “I will.” This is because we are all human and there will inevitably be times when we are unable to do what is best for our health for different reasons. But I believe that as long as we prioritize our health and wellbeing most of the time, that is what counts.

After practicing in family medicine for 30+ years, I have come to realize that the reason we have difficulty in taking care of our health is not because we don't know the importance of it; it is because we live in a fast-paced world where other priorities take over. What we need is someone who will hold our hand and guide us, support us, and encourage us in this journey, and that is what I plan to do this year.

Remember that life has to be fun, so sustaining a healthy lifestyle must also be fun. This is the first of many more blog posts to come, and I look forward to going on this journey with you.

There is no better time than now to start living healthy.
